Hot Rod Dreams

Like a Pied Piper, a Hot Rod seems to lure people unto it. Isn’t it really the child inside of us that loves a cool looking ride? As I observed this young boy walking up to this beautiful machine, I wanted to capture the relationship between a cool car and a child. For it’s as a child that the love and appreciation for a great looking automobile begins. This rod seems to have it’s own unique personality as it sits there under the close observation and admiration of all who pass by it. “Come look at me” it beckons, and the boy responds.

I took this image almost two years ago during one of my Saturday night ventures into “Old Town” in Kissimmee Florida. I usually shoot a lot of up close “personality” shots of the classic cars, images that exclude the many people who view these vehicles every Saturday night. I had to capture this moment in more of an “environment” shot.

You can view more of my photos from Old Town in my June Archives under the “Auto Art” post. www.chadoneil.blogspot.com/2006/06/auto-art.html

I LOVE this Hot Rod picture!!!! The red of the boy's hat and the red in the car make the picture come alive...I'm not a huge car fanatic but the picture makes me want to follow the boy and get in this sweet ride.

Luce,
I'm not a "motor head", but do appreciate the beauty and art of automobiles. Glad you enjoyed the photo!

Hi Chad, I like the way you isolated the red in these two objects. I must try to give this technique a go.

I've also added your link at Portfolio Reeholio, because each time I come back you have posted more great photos. Cheers, Rhys

This shot is great! The slant is perfect!

The one thing that is cool, in the era of time of this Hot Rod if you had taken a picture it would have been in black and white. It makes one feel as if somehow the red magically appeared in the photo.

It is amazing how advanced photography is today.

Well, since everyone has said a lot about the color and the car, I'm going to comment on how cool a picture feels when it's taken after it has rained. I like this one because you can see the glossy road. It just makes me feel that, in order to get the shot, I've waited in the corner diner for it to stop raining. I also like the one in your not too distant post of the girl walking in San Francisco.

Ever thought about collecting all of your posts and publishing a book? Your stories and pictures would make a cool coffee table book, to say the least. :)

Michele,
I agree that images "after the rain" do have a cool look to them.

About the coffee table book idea, I'm honored that you would say that. Thank you!

Chad,
I thought of this picture today after church when I was at this great little Mexican food place. The ambiance was fantastic and my buds and I immediately noticed this little boy asleep on a bench at a table with his family. From where I was sitting, all I could see were his tiny legs poking out from behind the table, with some scruffy sneakers and a San Diego Padres hat perched on his knees. It was so cute and for whatever reason it brought this picture to mind...I know if you had been there you would have made gotten a great photo out of the sight.

Great shot - reminds me of the scene of the girl with the red coat in 'Shindler's List'
