Rise of the Silver Surfer

This is an image that I captured a few months ago at the best theater in town, the “Cobb”. You’re looking at a life size model of the “Silver Surfer” from this Summer's hit “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”. This is one of 400 made for promoting the movie at a theater near you.

So far this Summer, I’ve taken in most of the really big blockbusters; Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Fantastic Four 2, and Transformers. All four films were visually stunning and great stories, but I think I was the most impressed with Spidy and Transformers out of this list. I’m getting ready to see the third installment of the “Bourne” series, The Bourne Ultimatum, next weekend.

What about you, have you seen any of the “Blockbusters” this summer? What was your favorite? Have you seen this silver guy at any of your theaters?

Love the perspective on this. Were people looking at you wondering what doing down there? I've yet to see a Summer blockbuster, maybe the Simpsons sometime this week.

My plans are always to go see these movies and then I wind up just buying them when they come out on video. Right now the only movie I'll probably go see on the big screen is Harry Potter.

As for your picute, just too awesome, I love the color on the background with the neon tubing.

I've seen the Pirates movie and really liked it and I like the Bourne movies too. Not really into Spider Man and Transformers.

Really cool photo you took.

Love the image Chad. I haven't gotten out to see any of these yet. I am probably going to miss them and then have to wait for the DVD to come out!

I am thinking about a response for your post yesterday I will try to hit that one soon!

An impressive statue.

I haven't seen a movie this summer. Well I didn't see one last winter either.

For some reason I can't sit in one place long enough to watch a movie anymore, even on TV. Not sure if that comes with age to not.

Hey Dude,

Ya, he's at our theatre in Burlington, Ontario. I was impressed with Transformers, but I thought Spidey was a letdown. I heard Pirates 3 was pretty bad, so I'll wait to rent it. I recommend Hot Fuzz - it comes out on dvd tomorrow.

I love the photo. I love the Silver Surfer comics as a kid.

The photo is a lot of fun, the colors and the framing.

I have to say, I haven't been to a movie in MONTHS. No summer blockbusters for me so far.

I'm looking forward to the Bourne Ultimatum. If it's like the other 2, I think it will be very good.

I actually saw this in the cafeteria at the Burger King Corporate Headquarters a few weeks back. It's cool although it looks way better here how you shot it with the green neon.

I saw Sicko which was awesome and Ratatouille which was great too. I'm not really into the whole "blockbuster" thing anymore. Although I HAVE to see the Simpsons ;)

I can not tell you how close I came to shooting this very image at our theater. My son is a hug comic buff and I recall the Silver Surfer from many years ago. I think this is just wonderful and great fun.

This is a very cool picture... nice shot. --- Insight to my "mommyhood" life... I so rarely see any movies in the theater anymore. Actually, I hardly see any movies at all anymore. Oh well.

I have been to zip movies this summer - isn't that pathetic? It usually takes a lot to get me to the theatre movie-wise as I haven't heard of anything that I'm crazy to see for awhile.

My son enjoyed seeing Spiderman, though...but I don't think he saw the silver man!

Great shot Chad!

The first time I discovered the Silver Surfer was Joe Satriani's breakthrough album "Surfing With The Alien", where the comic company allowed Satriani to use the Silver Surfer on the album cover.

Saw Bourne... hated it. Loved the first ones - but this was an unrelenting polemic screaming the evils of not just America, but of everyone who works for "the President of the past seven years." Hmmmm... wonder who that was. But, not to worry, while all of the villians are white men, two of the three heroes are women. And the role of the Senate investigation committee borders upon saintly. Thank heaven for those investigators, eh? AAARGH....

Um, sorry... haven't had a visceral reaction to a flick like this in a long time. Go see the latest Die Hard, no politics, it ROCKS!

So does your image.
